Cyclopath Bicycle Education Expands Subsidised Cycling Programmes Across Primary Schools

Cyclopath Bicycle Education has announced the rollout of its subsidised cycling safety and confidence programmes to primary schools across Louth, Meath, East Cavan, South Monaghan, and North County Dublin.
In partnership with Cycling Ireland and supported by the Department of Transport, these initiatives aim to equip children with essential cycling and road safety skills, while encouraging active travel and sustainable transport in local communities.
Building Confidence, Safety, and a Love for Cycling
“We’re passionate about giving every child the confidence to cycle safely and enjoy the freedom that comes with it,” said Garreth Curran, founder of Cyclopath Bicycle Education.
“Our programmes not only teach essential lifelong cycling and safety skills but also support schools in promoting active travel — at a cost that’s affordable for everyone.”
Cyclopath’s mission is to create confident, responsible young cyclists who understand how to share the road safely and independently.
Why Schools Choose Cyclopath Bicycle Education
Cyclopath’s programmes are designed to remove barriers and make safe cycling accessible for every school and pupil:
- 🚲 Subsidised Access: “Cycle Right” courses are subsidised for all schools, while balance bike and cycling courses are fully subsidised for DEIS schools and special education classes in non-DEIS schools. No extra paperwork is required — subsidies are built into the programme cost.
- 💶 Affordable Pricing: After subsidies, the cost per pupil is as low as €1.25/hour for DEIS schools and €2.50/hour for non-DEIS schools. Non-DEIS schools participating in An Taisce’s Green Schools initiative may qualify for an additional €10 per pupil grant.
- 🕒 Tailored Delivery: Programmes are scheduled to suit school timetables and yard/classroom availability.
- 🧢 Equipment Provided: Bikes and helmets are supplied where needed, ensuring no child is left out.
- 🧑🏫 Expert Instruction: All sessions are led by qualified instructors, blending fun with safety education.
- 🧡 Focus on Safety & Confidence: Lessons teach balance, coordination, and responsible cycling behaviour — skills that stay with children for life.
Cyclopath Programme Options
Cyclopath offers a range of age-appropriate and inclusive programmes:
- Cycle Right: The national standard cycling safety and skills programme combining classroom learning and on-bike training.
- Learn to Cycle with a Disability: An inclusive course designed to help children with additional needs develop confidence and motor skills.
- Cycling Skills: Fun, practical sessions focused on technique, coordination, and road awareness.
- Balance Bikes: Engaging lessons to help beginners master balance and coordination before moving to pedal bikes.
