Ardee News and Sport – Aldi Launches Deposit Return Scheme Savings Card to Reward Customers and Boost Sustainability
Aldi Ireland has announced the launch of a new Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) Savings Card, allowing customers to conveniently store and use funds from returned bottles and cans.
The initiative, part of Aldi’s continued investment in sustainability, enables customers to load the value of their DRS vouchers onto a dedicated Aldi Savings Card, which can be topped up at checkouts and used for future purchases.
The move comes as Aldi nears a significant milestone €200 million DRS returns across Ireland, expected to be reached this February. Since the scheme’s launch in February 2024, Aldi shoppers have returned over €30 million worth of cans and bottles to recycling machines at the retailer’s 163 stores nationwide.
Jason Carolan, Plastic & Packaging Manager at ALDI Ireland, highlighted the growing popularity of the scheme:
The DRS scheme has been very popular with ALDI shoppers, and since going live in February 2024, the number of items being returned on a monthly basis has steadily increased. That’s why we’re now looking at how we can make it even easier and more efficient to use.
Our new DRS Savings Card is a great way to build up the value of deposits over time. They’re easy to use and top-up, and customers can not only contribute to the circular economy, but they can also put that money aside for special occasions.
With over €30 million in cash, vouchers, and savings expected to be redeemed at Aldi stores, the retailer’s latest investment aims to further enhance sustainability efforts while offering added convenience for customers.
