County-Wide Recruitment Campaign for Retained Firefighters

Ardee Fire Service, one of the five key fire stations under the Louth County Fire and Rescue Service, is proud to be part of a dynamic new recruitment campaign aimed at strengthening emergency response teams across the region. This campaign, which spans the stations in Ardee, Drogheda, Dunleer, Dundalk, and Carlingford, is an open call to local residents to “answer the call” and consider a vital role in protecting their communities as retained firefighters.

Retained firefighters are part-time professionals who respond to emergencies in their local area while maintaining their primary jobs and personal commitments. These dedicated individuals are on-call for incidents such as fires, road traffic collisions, medical emergencies, and hazardous material situations.

The Louth County Fire Service is seeking passionate, reliable, and community-focused individuals who live within eight minutes of one of the five stations. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. In return, successful applicants will receive comprehensive training in firefighting techniques, rescue operations, emergency medical services, and handling hazardous materials.

The role of a retained firefighter offers competitive pay, flexible on-call arrangements, and clear opportunities for skill development and career progression within the fire service. It’s not just a job—it’s a chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people in your community.

To support potential applicants, the fire service is inviting members of the public to visit their local station to learn more about the role and speak with current team members. In Ardee, interested individuals are welcome to drop in on Monday evenings from 6.30pm to 7pm. Other participating stations are also holding similar open evenings:

  • Dunleer: Tuesdays, 6.30pm – 7pm
  • Carlingford: Mondays, 6pm – 6.30pm
  • Dundalk and Drogheda: Tuesdays, 5.30pm – 6pm

Whether you’re considering a career change, want to give back to your community, or are simply curious about the role, these open sessions provide an excellent opportunity to explore what it means to serve as a retained firefighter.

To find out more about training, eligibility requirements, and how to apply, visit the Louth County Fire Service Facebook page for the most up-to-date information and application details.

Now is the time to step up, serve your community, and become a local hero with the Ardee Fire Service and the Louth County Fire and Rescue team.
