Ardee News and Sport – Mid-Louth Councillors Announce 2025 Discretionary Budget with Major Investments Across Ardee and Surrounding Areas
Mid-Louth Councillors – In a significant boost for communities across Mid-Louth, the six local councillors have this evening confirmed their joint agreement on the 2025 discretionary budget, with funding allocated to a wide range of initiatives designed to benefit residents of all ages.
The funding plan, shaped through collaboration among the area’s six elected representatives, will see investment in public amenities, community services, sports clubs, schools, festivals, and support schemes for older and vulnerable residents.
Among the key projects announced is enhancement work to the Railway Walkway in Ardee, specifically on the eastern stretch near Castleguard Road — a popular local route that has seen growing use for recreation and commuting.
In nearby Castlebellingham, the budget will support the development of a basketball court and provide funding to the Dynamites Basketball Club, encouraging youth sports and healthy living.
Education and wellbeing are also front and centre, with dedicated funding for ASD equipment and mental health programmes in both Scoil Uí Mhuirí and Ardee Community School, addressing vital needs for students with additional supports.
The budget includes allocations for traffic calming measures in Annagassan, promoting road safety in one of the region’s key coastal villages, and a dedicated festivals fund to ensure the continuation of cherished community events such as St Patrick’s Day, Ardee Pride, and the ever-popular Santa Visit.
Support for local groups continues with funding for Dunleer and Reaghstown Tidy Towns, aiding in environmental improvement and community beautification. Tourism brochures and enterprise signage will also receive investment, helping to promote the area’s attractions and local businesses.
Older residents will benefit from two targeted schemes — the Older Persons Garden Care Scheme and the Older Persons Safety and Storm Scheme, providing essential services and peace of mind during adverse weather conditions.
The councillors also agreed to fund Senior Citizens parties, ensuring continued social engagement and celebration opportunities for the community’s elder generation.
Local sports and leisure groups receiving support include Ardee Rugby Club, Ardee Darts, and Tallanstown Darts, reflecting a strong commitment to fostering community connection through sport.
Accessibility and inclusion are further advanced with funding for school disability bikes, promoting mobility and independence for young people with disabilities.
Rounding out the 2025 funding is a grant for Philipstown Ladies Parlour, a valued rural community group offering social and cultural activities for women in the region.
The councillors jointly stated:
“This budget reflects our shared commitment to ensuring that every euro benefits the people of Mid-Louth. By investing in public spaces, local services, schools, and community groups, we are building a stronger, safer, and more inclusive region.”
Full details of the discretionary budget will be made available on the Louth County Council website in the coming days.
