Ardee St Marys and St Mochtas Set for Louth Division 1 Final Showdown
Ardee St Marys will face St Mochtas in a highly anticipated clash in the Louth Division 1 Football League Final this Sunday, with both teams riding high after impressive away victories in the final round of the competition. The stage is set for a thrilling Cardinal O’Donnell Cup decider, with bigger aspirations looming as the Senior Championship edges closer, but for now, all eyes are on this final.

St Mochtas secured their place in the final with a dominant performance against Cooley, winning 3-14 to 0-8. Goals from Oisin Callan, Shane Lennon, and Ben Goss Kieran highlighted their clinical display. Meanwhile, Ardee St Marys overcame Newtown Blues with a scoreline of 2-16 to 0-15, holding off the challenge from the Blues and securing the second spot in the final standings.

The Mochtas will be defending their Division 1 title, having won it last year, and are determined to retain their crown. On the other hand, Ardee St Marys are no strangers to success, having claimed the league title in 2021, and are hungry for another triumph, marking their second in four years.

The final round’s results also spelled disappointment for 3rd place St Mairtins, who needed an Ardee loss to clinch a spot in the final. Despite their comprehensive 3-13 to 0-4 victory over St Pats, the Mairtins’ hopes were dashed by Ardee’s victory over Newtown Blues, proving that their win was ultimately in vain.

The Louth CCC has scheduled the Mochtas vs. Marys final for Sunday at 5pm, though the venue is yet to be confirmed, with Darver emerging as a likely candidate. The final will be nestled between two Intermediate Championship opening round matches at 3pm and 7pm, one in Darver and the other in Hunterstown. Notably, the Mattock and Glyde clash, initially set for Ardee, will now be played in Hunterstown due to Ardee St Marys’ involvement in the league final.

As both teams prepare for what promises to be a fierce battle, fans can expect a match filled with intensity, skill, and the desire to lift the coveted Division 1 trophy. With the Senior Championship on the horizon, this final will not only serve as a chance for silverware but also as a vital momentum-builder for the challenges that lie ahead.
