Ardee News and Sport – Armoy Road Races Anticipate ‘Exceptional’ Year During ‘Extraordinary’ Northern Ireland Summer
Armoy Road Races : Excitement is mounting for what is being hailed as an “exceptional” year for the Armoy Road Races, as the historic ‘Race of Legends’ gears up for its return on July 25–26, 2025. Set against the backdrop of an “extraordinary” summer of sport on Northern Ireland’s North Coast, the event is poised to attract thousands of motorsport fans from around the world.
William Munnis, Clerk of the Course for the Armoy Road Races, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event, now in its 16th year. “The Armoy Road Races have consistently gained momentum, and 2025 is set to be another exceptional year,” he said. “We eagerly anticipate welcoming fans from around the globe to experience the thrill of road racing in this iconic and historic setting. With the added excitement of the Open Championship, the North Coast is poised for a vibrant summer.”
Indeed, the timing could hardly be better. Just one week before engines roar through Armoy’s famed streets, the prestigious Open Championship will return to Royal Portrush, drawing a massive influx of visitors to the area and shining an international spotlight on the region.
The Bayview Hotel will once again serve as title sponsor for the event. Owner Trevor Kane hailed the double-header of world-class events as a major boon to the local economy. “This summer is shaping up to be an extraordinary one for the North Coast,” said Kane. “The Armoy Road Races have always been a magnet for motorsport fans, and with the Open Championship making its return to Royal Portrush, we anticipate a remarkable influx of visitors.”
“These world-class events, occurring over a two-week span, will provide a substantial lift for local businesses, from hotels and restaurants to shops and cafes. It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase our region’s offerings on a global stage once again.”
Founded in 2007 by local woman Kathleen Hartin, the Armoy Motorcycle Road Racing Club has transformed from a passionate group of enthusiasts into a thriving organisation with hundreds of members. The club continues to honour the legacy of the legendary Armoy Armada – a quartet of racing icons including Joey Dunlop, Mervyn Robinson, Frank Kennedy, and Jim Dunlop – whose spirit remains at the heart of the event.
Gareth McAuley, Chairman of the Armoy Motorcycle Road Racing Club, commended the dedication of the club’s volunteers. “Our volunteers are working tirelessly to ensure the success of this year’s event,” he said. “With increasing interest from fans and riders, we’re committed to delivering a safe, exciting, and memorable experience that continues to put Armoy on the map.”
With its combination of thrilling racing, deep-rooted heritage, and a globally spotlighted summer of sport, the 2025 Armoy Road Races are primed to be one of the standout events of the year.
