Ballapousta, Co. Louth – Ballapousta National School was among 22 exceptional schools from across County Louth celebrated for their outstanding environmental achievements at the 2025 Green-Schools Awards Ceremony, held on Tuesday, 21st May, at the Fairways Hotel in Dundalk.
The event marked a major milestone in the region’s environmental education journey, as schools from Louth, Fingal, Meath, and Monaghan gathered to be honoured for their tireless commitment to sustainability, climate action, and eco-conscious living.
The regional ceremony, part of the national Green-Schools Programme managed by An Taisce in collaboration with local authorities, saw an impressive 78 Green Flags awarded—each flag a symbol of a school’s dedication to tackling global environmental challenges through local action.

The Power of the Green-Schools Programme
The Green-Schools Programme empowers schools to become change-makers by incorporating sustainability into everyday learning. Through it, students develop a deep understanding of environmental challenges and become active participants in crafting solutions.
