The 2025 League of Ireland Fixture List Unveiled for Premier and First Divisions

The 2025 League of Ireland season promises an exciting start for the North East’s two footballing sides, as the fixture lists for both divisions were unveiled. Drogheda United and Dundalk will begin their respective campaigns under the Friday night lights on February 14th, with both clubs embarking on very different journeys this season.

Premier Division: Drogheda United Kick Off in Inchicore

Drogheda United, led by Kevin Doherty, will face a tough opening fixture in the Premier Division as they travel to Richmond Park to take on St. Patrick’s Athletic, now managed by former Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny. The encounter marks a stern test for the Boynesiders, as they go up against a Pats side tipped to challenge for silverware under Kenny’s guidance.

The following week, Drogheda will enjoy the comforts of Weavers Park for their first home game of the season, as they host Sligo Rovers on Friday, February 21st.

Looking ahead, Drogheda’s final game of the season is scheduled for Saturday, November 1st, when they welcome Bohemians in what could be a pivotal fixture for both sides’ ambitions, whether at the top or bottom of the table.

The Premier Division’s opening weekend will also feature other notable fixtures. Tim Clancy’s newly-promoted Cork City will host Galway United, while defending champions Shelbourne begin their title defense against Derry City. On Saturday, Sligo Rovers face Waterford, before a blockbuster Sunday clash sees Bohemians take on Shamrock Rovers at the Aviva Stadium.

First Division: Dundalk Start New Era Under Kilduff

In the First Division, Dundalk begin life outside the top tier with a home fixture at Oriel Park against Athlone Town on February 14th. The match will hold particular significance for new manager Ciaran Kilduff, who previously managed Athlone Town’s Ladies team before making his mark in men’s football.

Kilduff and his Dundalk side face a quick turnaround the following week, heading north to Finn Harps on February 21st for their first away match. Then, on February 28th, the Lilywhites will face a long journey to Kerry, where they meet Kerry FC at Mounthawk Park in round three of the campaign.

Dundalk’s First Division finale sees them travel to Cobh Ramblers on Friday, October 17th, bringing their season to a close with what could prove a decisive fixture in their bid to bounce back to the Premier Division.

Two Sides, Two Ambitions

With Drogheda aiming to build on their Premier Division status and Dundalk eager to reclaim their place among the elite, 2025 promises to be a season full of drama, key matchups, and plenty of local pride. North East football fans will have their calendars marked and hopes high for the campaigns ahead.
