Co. Louth Golfers Named
Two standout golfers from County Louth have been selected to represent Ireland in the prestigious Home Internationals, set to take place from August 6th to 8th at Conwy Golf Club in Wales.
The Irish Boys’ and Girls’ teams will compete in a round-robin series against England, Scotland, and Wales. Each match will consist of seven foursomes—three involving girls and four involving boys—and 14 singles matches, with six girls and nine boys participating in the singles.
County Louth will be prominently represented by Louis Goodman and Ellen O’Shaughnessy, who have both earned spots on the teams. Their inclusion underscores the strong talent emerging from the region.
The Boys’ team, which is looking to defend their title after a 7-5 victory over England at Lindrick Golf Club last year, features a blend of returning champions and fresh faces. Alongside Goodman, this year’s squad includes Fionn Dobbin (Malone), John Doyle (Fota Island), Mark Gazi (Tralee), and Jack Murphy (Douglas), all of whom were part of the victorious team last year. They will be joined by Finlay Eager (Royal Belfast), Rory Gallagher (Galway Bay), Robert Garry (Malahide), and Harry McArdle (Warrenpoint).
On the Girls’ side, Ellen O’Shaughnessy will be part of a team that boasts significant experience with five returning players from the 2023 squad: Anna Abom (Edmondstown), Olivia Costello (Roscommon), Kate Dillon (Oughterard), Hannah Lee-McNamara (Royal Portrush), and Ellen O’Shaughnessy (Co. Louth). Holly Hamilton (Belvoir Park) and Róisín Scanlon (Woburn) round out the team.
The Irish teams will be guided by a dedicated support staff, including Team Captains Peter English (Limerick) and Sara Rose Shelly, with coaches Stephen Hood and Chris Jelly providing strategic insight. Martin Hynes (Athenry) serves as the Overall Team Manager, ensuring seamless coordination throughout the competition.
The Home Internationals are a key event in the amateur golf calendar, showcasing the best young talents from Ireland, England, Scotland, and Wales. Fans and supporters are eager to see how the Irish teams fare in this high-stakes tournament.
Best of luck to Louis Goodman, Ellen O’Shaughnessy, and all the Irish players as they vie for glory on the international stage.
