Dates Announced for Louth Mattress & Couch Amnesty Event
Louth County Council has confirmed the dates for this year’s Mattress and Couch Amnesty event, with collections scheduled in Ardee, Dundalk, and Drogheda. The event, part of the county’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal dumping, provides residents with an opportunity to dispose of bulky household items like mattresses and couches in an environmentally friendly way.
Funded by a €76,800 grant from the government’s Anti-Dumping Initiative (ADI), the Amnesty event has been a success in previous years, helping to reduce illegal dumping across the county. The initiative is one of three ADI projects planned for Louth in 2024.
Here are the details for the upcoming collections:
• Dundalk: Wednesday, 11 September, 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM at the V&W Civic Amenity Centre, Newry Road, Dundalk, A91 X72W.
• Drogheda: Wednesday, 11 September, 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM at the V&W Civic Amenity Centre, Mell Road, Drogheda, A92 N126.
• Ardee: Thursday, 12 September, 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM at Kieran & McGee Ardee Livestock Sales Yard, Drumgoolestown, Ardee, A92 VP92.
The Council will cover the disposal costs for mattresses and couches, though a €4 entry fee to the recycling centres in Dundalk and Drogheda will apply. Participants are reminded that all mattresses must be clean and dry, and only domestic users can take part. The event is limited to three items per vehicle, and only mattresses, armchairs, and sofas will be accepted—other furniture items will not be eligible for disposal.
