Dog owners and walkers in Louth and Monaghan are being warned to be extra cautious following two alarming incidents in local parks where suspicious food items were discovered.

In the past few days, two dogs became seriously ill after ingesting items left in public spaces. The first case occurred in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, where a dog consumed what was described as eggshells filled with foodstuffs. The second incident happened in Blackrock, Co. Louth, where dog treats were found scattered across an area of the local park.

Both dogs required veterinary treatment after becoming extremely unwell, but thankfully, they have since recovered.

These incidents have raised concerns among pet owners, with fears that the food may have been deliberately tampered with to harm animals. Local authorities and animal welfare groups are urging dog owners to be vigilant while walking their pets and to avoid letting dogs eat anything found on the ground.

Anyone who notices suspicious food items in public areas is advised to report them to their local council or Gardaí immediately. If a dog shows signs of illness after consuming something unusual, owners should seek veterinary help without delay.

Pet owners in Louth and Monaghan are urged to spread awareness and take precautions to keep their furry companions safe.
