Gardaí in Drogheda, Co. Louth, have issued an urgent appeal for witnesses following a concerning hijacking and subsequent arson of a delivery driver’s car in the early hours of Monday, October 21. The incident began at approximately 2:05 a.m. in the Brookville estate, where a delivery driver was threatened and assaulted by an unidentified man. The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was later treated at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
After the attack, the assailant seized control of the delivery car, which was later discovered ablaze around 5:00 a.m. in the Glenmore Drive area of Drogheda. The car’s destruction has left Gardaí with limited evidence, making public assistance crucial in piecing together the events of the night.
Gardaí are particularly interested in any information from individuals who were in the vicinity of Brookville and Glenmore between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Monday morning. “Any person who was traveling near the Brookville and Glenmore areas between these times is asked to contact investigating Gardaí,” a spokesperson urged.
Additionally, Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area and has camera footage, such as dash-cam recordings or mobile footage, to provide it to assist the investigation. Such evidence could be instrumental in identifying the suspect or tracking the vehicle’s movement.
