Drogheda Port to Host National Services Day 2025 Tribute
By ArdeePost Reporter
The North East Region’s annual National Services Day (NSD) will return to Drogheda on Saturday, 6th September 2025, offering the community a chance to celebrate and connect with the frontline services who serve and protect them every day.
This year’s event will take place at Drogheda Port, running from 12:00pm to 3:00pm, where families and individuals will be welcomed to meet emergency and voluntary services personnel, view their vehicles and equipment, and learn more about the vital work they carry out.
Despite a modest scale due to financial constraints, organisers promise a vibrant and meaningful programme. From ambulances, army vehicles and fire engines to Garda patrol cars and coastguard units, attendees can look forward to hands-on experiences, exciting photo opportunities, and direct conversations with the people behind the uniforms.
Kevin Doyle, the newly appointed NSD Regional Representative and Assistant Regional Director of the Order of Malta Ambulance Corps, expressed his pride in this year’s event:
“While financial realities have shaped the programme, our focus remains on the people. This celebration at Drogheda Port gives the public a fantastic opportunity to meet those who serve with dedication and pride across our emergency and voluntary sectors. It’s a day for connection, education, and gratitude.”
Mr Doyle replaces outgoing Chairman Gavan Duff, whose leadership over the past three years helped grow Drogheda’s NSD into one of the region’s most valued civic events.
The committee also extended their gratitude to Drogheda Port Company for providing the venue, helping ensure that National Services Day 2025 can continue to unite the community in honouring its frontline heroes.
As Mr Doyle noted:
“National Services Day is about more than displays or activities — it’s about respect and recognition. We encourage everyone to come along, meet the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes, and help us celebrate their contribution to keeping Drogheda and its surrounding areas safe.”
The event will feature participants from a wide range of services, including:
- Emergency medical services
- Fire services
- An Garda Síochána
- The Defence Forces
- The Coast Guard
- Revenue
- Civil Defence
- Key community response groups
