Drogheda United Bolster Squad with Signing of Bohemians Goalkeeper Luke Dennison
Drogheda United’s summer spending spree continues with the acquisition of Bohemians goalkeeper Luke Dennison.
United’s squad was recently depleted after several loan deals expired last week. The 27-year-old Dennison, who joined Bohemians 18 months ago from Longford Town, made just two appearances as James Talbot and Kacper Chorazka were favored over him. Dennison is United’s fourth signing of the transfer window.
Seeking more game time, Dennison will now compete with Andrew Wogan and Jethren Barr for a starting position at Drogheda. “I was at Bohemians the last year and a half. It was going well, but I found myself not playing, so I felt a move would be best,” Dennison explained. “Drogheda came in, and I had a great chat with Kevin (Doherty, manager), and I know Daire (Doyle, assistant) from working with him at Longford. It sounded like the perfect fit for me. Andy (Wogan) is a top young goalkeeper, so I’m here to push him, Jethren (Barr), and myself.”
Dennison, born in the US to parents from Dublin and Kells, started his career in US college soccer and was also part of the San Jose Earthquakes setup. He is the fourth signing for Drogheda in this transfer window, following Douglas James-Taylor, Elicha Ahui, and Shane Farrell.
The club has also seen departures, including Oisin Gallagher and Hayden Cann, whose loan from Lincoln expired with Cann joining Dundalk. Evan Weir has left for Walsall as planned, and Wogan has been sold to Stockport County but loaned back for the rest of the season.
Manager Kevin Doherty expressed his satisfaction with Dennison’s signing: “I’m delighted to have Luke in. He’s an excellent goalkeeper, and it provides us with serious competition in that position now. I was really impressed with how he wanted to join the club, how he wants to come in and compete, and that’s exactly what he’ll do. We did need to cover ourselves with Jethren’s injury but the main reason Luke is in is to provide that competition.”
