Drogheda United Strengthen Squad with Key Signing of Elicha Ahui
Defender Elicha Ahui Returns to Drogheda United on Loan from Lincoln City
As the League of Ireland transfer window opens, Drogheda United have made a significant move to bolster their squad in a bid to avoid relegation. Defender Elicha Ahui has returned to the club on loan from Lincoln City, a move eagerly anticipated by fans and management alike.
Ahui, who made a strong impression during his previous spell at Weavers Park with 21 appearances and a memorable winning goal against Derry City, is back to aid Drogheda United’s campaign. Following his stint at Drogheda, Ahui had loan spells at Ayr United in the Scottish Championship and Peterborough Sports in the National League, gaining valuable experience in various competitive environments.
Drogheda United manager Kevin Doherty expressed his enthusiasm about Ahui’s return: “When you know the player really well, it’s an easy decision for me, but we had to work to get him in, and I’m delighted he’s a Drogheda player again. He’s been playing in midfield on loan too. I’ve watched the games he’s played, we know what he can do at right-back, but it’s another option for us as well because he’s been excellent there too. It’s great to have him back. It’s not going to take him a lot of time to settle in either, because he knows so many of the players.”
Ahui, who is Drogheda United’s second summer signing following Douglas James-Taylor’s loan from Walsall, shared his excitement about rejoining the club: “I’m delighted to be back. The manager reached out to me, and as soon as he did, I wanted to come back. I’ve had more experience in men’s football in the year away too. It’s about coming in, helping the team as much as I can to move up the table.”
With Ahui’s versatility and familiarity with the team, Drogheda United are optimistic about their chances of climbing the league standings. The club and its supporters are looking forward to a busy and successful July transfer window, with hopes that these new signings will make a significant impact on the pitch.
