Drumconrath Residents Optimistic After Latest Round of Town Centre First Funding
Residents of Drumconrath are expressing optimism following the announcement of a new wave of projects that will benefit from €2.6 million in Town Centre First funding. The funding, announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys, includes €49,500 allocated to Drumconrath for the pre-planning stage of a significant redevelopment project.
The funding for Drumconrath will support the public consultation and planning necessary to transform a derelict site in the village into a public park and amenity space. The project aims to revitalize the area by creating a new focal point for the community while simultaneously addressing the issue of dereliction by removing two unsightly sites.
In addition to the funding for Drumconrath, €50,000 has been approved for a project in Dunleer. This project will prepare designs for a new public realm square, which will feature new hard surfaces, kerbing, street furniture, feature lighting, soft landscape planting, cycle parking, and signage.
Minister Humphreys highlighted the importance of these projects in her announcement, stating, “I am delighted to announce funding of €2.6 million today, which will support local authorities and Town Teams to develop a strong pipeline of shovel-ready projects in our local towns. I look forward to seeing these exciting projects and initiatives progress and make positive impacts for our rural towns and villages.”
The funding is part of a broader effort to enhance the vitality of rural communities across Ireland, with a particular focus on developing green spaces, parks, and repurposing vacant and derelict buildings. The residents of Drumconrath are hopeful that this project will bring new life to their village, fostering a stronger sense of community and improving the quality of life for all.
