Garda Seriously Injured After Van Driven at Patrol in Clonmore Estate
Garda recovering in hospital after sustaining serious injuries when a van was deliberately driven at him during a patrol in Clonmore Estate, Ardee, in the early hours of this morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:20am when Gardaí approached a parked van while on routine patrol. Upon exiting their vehicle to investigate, one Garda was struck as the van suddenly accelerated toward them.
The injured officer was transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where he is being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
A technical examination of the scene is currently underway, and An Garda Síochána has launched a full investigation into the incident.
In a statement released today, Gardaí appealed to the public for assistance:
“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Clonmore Estate area between 4:00am and 4:40am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.”
The force has also confirmed that Garda welfare services have been activated to support the injured officer and his colleagues affected by the incident.
The shocking event has sent ripples through the Ardee community, where residents have expressed concern and support for the injured Garda.
