Ardee News and SportGardaí Appeal for Information Following Violent Dundalk Carjacking

Gardaí in Dundalk are seeking witnesses and dashcam footage after a violent carjacking in the Aldi car park on Newry Road last Friday evening left a woman in her 40s seriously assaulted.

The terrifying incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. when the victim, seated in her silver BMW 5 Series, was approached by a male suspect armed with a knife. The man forcibly removed the woman from her vehicle, assaulting her multiple times during the attack.

The suspect then fled the scene in the stolen car, but not before a chilling moment where he drove into a cul-de-sac, reversed, and appeared to deliberately target the victim. The woman managed to move out of the way just in time, avoiding further harm. Disturbingly, the car passed over her handbag, which was in the exact spot where she had been moments earlier.

The stolen car was later discovered burnt out, adding another layer of urgency to the Garda investigation.

Gardaí have launched an appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who might have relevant dashcam footage to come forward. They are particularly interested in sightings of the silver BMW 5 Series before it was found burned out.

The victim is receiving medical treatment for her injuries and is said to be recovering, though deeply shaken by the ordeal.

Speaking about the incident, a Garda spokesperson emphasized the importance of community assistance in solving crimes like this: “This was a particularly violent and traumatizing incident, and we are urging anyone who may have information, no matter how small, to come forward. Any detail could prove crucial in identifying the suspect and bringing them to justice.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Dundalk Garda Station at 042 93 88 400 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.

This shocking attack has sparked renewed concerns about safety in public spaces, with locals calling for increased security measures to deter such incidents. Community leaders and Gardaí are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior in the area.
