Ger Brennan Steps Down: Louth GAA Manager Resigns After Two-Year Tenure
By ArdeePost Reporter

Louth GAA fans were stunned today as manager Ger Brennan officially stepped down, bringing an end to his two-year tenure in charge of the county senior football team. The announcement, made late last night via a statement released by Louth GAA, comes just weeks after their All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final defeat to Donegal.

Brennan, who led Louth to their first Provincial title in 68 years—the 2023 Leinster Championship—confirmed that he would not seek a third season as manager. “After much reflection, I feel the time is right to step aside and let fresh leadership take the reins,” he said. Brennan also thanked players, support staff, and supporters, adding that seeing the emergence of under-age talent under his guidance was a career highlight.
Under Brennan’s leadership, Louth rediscovered a winning culture, combining optimism with strategic development. Players such as Sean Callaghan, James Maguire, and Tadgh McDonnell emerged from the under-20 ranks to supply the senior panel with young talent.
County Board chairperson, Cllr. Siobhán Smith, offered her gratitude and support: “Ger’s dedication transformed Louth football and brought joy to a long-suffering fanbase. We now must work together to appoint a successor who can build on his legacy.”
Brennan’s departure opens the door to a competitive search for his replacement—several names, including current Dublin assistant managers and other high-profile candidates, have already been linked with the role. In the meantime, Louth face the challenge of maintaining momentum ahead of the 2026 campaign.
The County Board is expected to announce a review process and begin interviews in the coming weeks. Brennan’s final decisions on remaining involved in coaching or mentoring younger squads will likely be revealed in forthcoming announcements.
As Louth now navigate this managerial transition, the priority will be ensuring continuity, capitalising on emerging talent, and seeking to build on the foundation Brennan helped establish.
