Ireland’s Youth Team Triumphs at World Darts Federation Europe Cup
The Republic of Ireland boys’ team achieved a historic victory by claiming gold at the World Darts Federation’s Europe Cup Youth in Latvia over the weekend.
The talented team, comprising Aidan O’Hara, Sean McKeon, Callum Coade, and Shane Porter, delivered an outstanding performance to secure a 9-7 win against the Netherlands in a thrilling final match. Their journey to the top saw them finishing first in their group after decisive victories over Lithuania, Sweden, and Slovenia. They continued their winning streak with knockout triumphs against Northern Ireland, Turkey, and Wales, ultimately earning them the Boys Overall Champions title in Riga.
Held every two years, the prestigious event showcased the skill and determination of the young Irish players. This victory follows a series of successes for Irish darts, including the women’s team clinching the WDF World Cup last October.
Adding to the excitement, Katie Sheldon, a key player in the Irish women’s team, is set to compete in the Women’s World Matchplay at the Winter Gardens on Sunday. The Dubliner will face defending champion Beau Greaves in the quarter-final, aiming to continue Ireland’s winning streak on the international stage.
