NHL Division 4: Louth 0-22 Longford 2-8.

The Wee County hurlers have officially secured their place in Division 3 of next year’s National Hurling League after a dominant second-half performance saw them defeat Longford by eight points at Dowdallshill this afternoon.

Trevor Hilliard’s side came into the game knowing that a win would guarantee their promotion, and despite a slow start, they showed their quality when it mattered most.

Strong Finish Seals the Victory

The Wee County found themselves trailing at the break, as Longford led 1-7 to 0-7. Louth fought back early in the second half to reduce the deficit, but a penalty goal from Longford 20 minutes from time momentarily restored their three-point advantage. However, that was the last time the visitors would trouble the scoreboard.

Louth responded in stunning fashion, seizing control of the game and rattling off eleven unanswered points to secure a comprehensive victory. Their relentless pressure and sharp finishing left Longford struggling to keep up.

Darren Geoghegan was the standout performer, leading the charge with an impressive 0-12, showing his class in front of goal and punishing Longford’s defensive lapses.

Focus Turns to the Final

With five consecutive victories under their belt, Louth have now completed their main objective of securing promotion. However, their campaign isn’t over just yet, as they will now prepare for the Division 4 League Final on Saturday, March 29th, where they will have the opportunity to cap off their successful season with silverware.

This latest victory underlines the progress of Louth hurling, and with promotion secured, the team will be eager to make their mark in Division 3 next season.
