Major Drugs Bust in Ardee: Two men have been arrested and over €390,000 worth of illegal drugs seized following a major Garda operation targeting drug distribution networks in County Louth.
The operation, part of Operation Tara, unfolded late last night, Monday, 28 April, when Gardaí from the Divisional Drugs Unit in Drogheda intercepted a van in Ardee shortly after 11:00 PM. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of cocaine with an estimated street value exceeding €200,000.
The driver of the van, a man in his 40s, was immediately arrested at the scene. He is currently being detained at a Garda station in County Louth under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
In a follow-up search during the early hours of Tuesday morning, 29 April, Gardaí raided a residential property in Ardee. There, they discovered a further cache of drugs—cannabis with an estimated value of more than €190,000. A second man, in his 50s, was arrested and is also being held under the same legislation.
Gardaí confirmed that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle organised drug trafficking in the region. The seized substances will be sent for further analysis, and investigations remain ongoing.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána stated, “This significant seizure underlines our commitment to tackling serious criminal activity and removing harmful drugs from our communities.”
Further updates will be provided as the investigation develops.
