Man in his 40s arrested following a dangerous driving incident in Clonmore, Ardee, that left a Garda officer with serious leg injuries.
The alarming event occurred in the early hours of Friday morning, shortly after 4:20am, when a van was driven directly at a Garda in the Clonmore Estate area, striking the officer and causing significant injury. The injured Garda received immediate medical attention, and his injuries, though serious, are not believed to be life-threatening.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday evening and is currently being detained at a Garda station in the Eastern region, where he is being questioned in connection with the incident.
Gardaí have launched a full investigation and are renewing their appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage. They are particularly interested in speaking with any road users who may have been in the Clonmore Estate area between 4:00am and 4:40am on Friday, and are urging those with camera footage to come forward.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or who has relevant information or footage, to contact us,” said a Garda spokesperson.
