🏁 Dunlop Honored at Stormont for Historic Isle of Man TT Wins 🏁

Michael Dunlop, the Ballymoney road racing sensation, was celebrated at a special event at Stormont following his historic success at this year’s Isle of Man TT, where he surpassed his legendary uncle Joey Dunlop’s record of 26 wins, reaching an astonishing 29 victories.

Communities Minister Gordon Lyons hosted the reception at Parliament Buildings on Monday to recognize Dunlop’s incredible achievements. Lyons praised the Dunlop family’s long-standing legacy in motorsport, saying:

“Motorsports have been part of Northern Ireland’s legacy for decades, and the Dunlops have always led the way in road racing across the UK and Europe.”

Dunlop’s four wins at the 2024 Isle of Man TT not only secured his new record but also saw him set a new lap record of over 135mph in the Superbike race, a testament to his unmatched skill and courage.

Dunlop admitted the event at Stormont was a moment to reflect:

“It is great to be recognised… It was great to get the record and get that monkey off my back. Now we keep going.”

At just 35, Michael Dunlop continues to inspire new generations of road racers, with more success surely on the horizon.

Michael Dunlop (born 10 April 1989) is a professional motorcycle racer from Northern Ireland. He holds the record for the most victories at the Isle of Man TT, with an impressive 29 wins, surpassing the record previously held by his late uncle, Joey Dunlop.

Michael comes from a renowned road racing family—he is the brother of the late William Dunlop, son of Robert Dunlop, and nephew of Joey Dunlop, a former World Champion.

Michael Dunlop made his Isle of Man TT debut in 2007, with his best finish being 25th in the Superbike TT. In 2008, following the tragic death of his father at the North West 200 earlier that year, he made a last-minute decision to compete in the TT. He finished 10th in the Senior TT, setting a fastest lap of 124.773 mph, making him the fastest Dunlop to race on the TT Course.

In 2009, Dunlop etched his name into the record books alongside his father and uncle Joey when he claimed victory in the Supersport TT race on a 600cc Yamaha.
