Michael Dunlop delivered a sensational performance at the Briggs Equipment North West 200 on Thursday, securing a double victory after storming to a commanding win in the evening’s Superstock race aboard his MD Racing BMW M1000RR.

The Ballymoney rider showed resilience and class, bouncing back after a crash earlier in Superstock qualifying at the Magherabuoy chicane. Undeterred, Dunlop put in a flawless ride in the race itself, adding to his earlier triumph in the Supersport event—his first win at the iconic road race since 2016.

Dunlop’s latest success brings his career tally at the North West 200 to seven victories and underscores his return to top form on home soil.

Davey Todd, who has already secured two Superstock wins in 2024, initially led the race on the 8TEN Racing BMW. However, Dunlop was in relentless pursuit and caught Todd on the run toward Coleraine. Todd then ran wide at University and appeared to suffer a mechanical issue, temporarily leaving Dunlop with a clear path ahead.

With Dean Harrison (Honda Racing UK) just under a second behind as the riders began their fourth and final lap, Dunlop dug deep to maintain his lead. The Northern Irishman rode with precision and aggression, ultimately pulling away to take the win by 2.6 seconds.

Harrison crossed the line in second, 5.6 seconds ahead of Ian Hutchinson (MLav Racing BMW), while Todd recovered to finish fourth, five seconds further back. Peter Hickman, also on the 8TEN Racing BMW, finished fifth after losing time at Magherabuoy, narrowly edging out Josh Brookes (Jackson Racing Honda) by 0.7 seconds.

Conor Cummins (Burrows/RK Racing BMW) and Michael Evans (Dafabet Racing Honda) completed the top eight.

Dunlop’s double on the day was a statement of intent ahead of the rest of the road racing season and a reminder that the veteran remains a dominant force when the stakes are highest.
