Monastery National School Launches Innovative Sensory Corridor and Climbing Wall to Support Student Well-being
Monastery NS in Ardee has officially launched its brand-new Sensory Corridor and Climbing Wall—a groundbreaking addition aimed at enhancing the emotional, sensory, and educational development of its pupils. This innovative space reflects the school’s dedication to fostering an inclusive learning environment, with a strong focus on the well-being of every child.
The newly unveiled facility offers a thoughtfully designed area where students can engage in a range of sensory regulation activities, improve focus, and participate in tactile and movement-based exercises. The Sensory Corridor features interactive panels, calming lighting, and tactile elements, while the Climbing Wall provides a fun and physically engaging outlet that promotes coordination and confidence.
These features are particularly beneficial for students with additional sensory needs, offering them a safe and supportive space to help manage emotions, reduce anxiety, and stay engaged in classroom learning.
The project was made possible through generous support from Ardee Credit Union, the Monastery NS Parents’ Association, and the Monastery NS Board of Management. It represents a wonderful example of community collaboration and commitment to inclusive education.
The concept and installation were led by Caroline St Leger of Supercalm Sensory Products, in partnership with School Principal Jim McGee and SEN Coordinator Valerie Browne, whose shared vision brought the project to life.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Sensory Corridor and Climbing Wall as part of our commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment,” said a school spokesperson. “This space will provide children with essential tools to manage sensory input and emotions, ultimately helping them feel more comfortable and engaged in their education.”
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was carried out by Niall Lambert of Ardee Credit Union, joined by key contributors including Michael McCoy and Lisa O’Brien (Monastery NS Board of Management), Deirdre Commins and Lisa Coyle (MNS Parents’ Association), Jim McGee, Philip McAdam, Valerie Browne and Laura Quinn (Monastery NS staff), and Caroline St Leger of Supercalm Sensory Products.
The addition of this new facility marks a significant step forward for Monastery NS, reinforcing its role as a forward-thinking, inclusive school that prioritizes the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of its students.
