New Planning Application Submitted for Market Street Development in Ardee
Ardee News and Sport – New Planning Application Submitted for Market Street Development in Ardee
A new planning application has been submitted for a significant redevelopment project in Ardee, aiming to enhance connectivity and improve facilities in the heart of the town. The proposal, registered under Application Ref: 2560107, seeks to transform the site of the former Lanney’s Supermarket on Market Street, introducing improved pedestrian access, additional parking, and modernized features.
The New Planning Application, received by Louth County Council on February 27, 2025, outlines plans to utilize the existing archway to Market Street, creating an ungated pedestrian link between Market Street and the rear lands. This enhancement is expected to improve foot traffic and accessibility within the town centre.
Additionally, the proposal includes the demolition of a warehouse-style building at the rear of Market Street, previously part of the former SuperValu store. This will make way for a newly designed shopfront, a reopened archway, and restored first-floor windows on the rear-facing elevation, contributing to an improved streetscape.
A key feature of the development is the creation of a new public seating area and a 37-space car park to the rear of Market Street. The parking area will include nine electric vehicle (EV) charging spaces, one accessible space, and 12 cycle parking spaces, reflecting modern transport and environmental considerations.
Further enhancements proposed as part of the project include landscaping, new boundary treatments, improved lighting throughout the car park area, and associated site development works. These changes aim to rejuvenate this central location and provide a more inviting space for shoppers and visitors.

The New Planning Application is currently under review, with a decision expected by April 23, 2025. Further details and updates on the planning process can be accessed through the Louth County Council’s planning portal: Louth Planning Portal.
Residents and business owners in Ardee are encouraged to review the proposal and submit any observations or feedback before the decision date.
