Niall Quinn Wins €12k for Dillon Quirke Foundation at Luxe Scot Celebrity Pro-Am

Niall Quinn Former footballer Niall Quinn clinched the €12,000 prize for the Dillon Quirke Foundation by winning the individual celebrity title at the Luxe Scot Celebrity Pro-Am at Seapoint Golf Links, County Louth.

Quinn scored a round of 67 (nett 61) and 41 Stableford points, edging out former Irish Olympian John Treacy by a single point, and finishing two points ahead of ex-England rugby star Keith Wood.

Quinn, who was part of the winning team led by former Masters champion Ian Woosnam, expressed his joy at the victory and the impact of the prize: “I’ve played a lot of golf, but Ian Woosnam was a superstar today – he carried us. To win and donate €12,000 to the Dillon Quirke Foundation is just brilliant.”

The foundation, which aims to prevent sudden adult death syndrome (SADS) among young athletes, was established in memory of Tipperary hurler Dillon Quirke. Quinn emphasized the importance of the cause: “Dillon was a top player taken too young. The foundation’s goal is to test young athletes for heart issues, and it’s close to hitting the target of 10,000 tests by the end of the season.”

John Treacy, who won a silver medal in the marathon at the 1984 Olympics, secured second place with a score of 86 (nett 68) and 40 Stableford points, winning €9,000 for Concern Worldwide. Third place went to Keith Wood, who earned €3,000 for the W2 Foundation with a round of 75 (nett 69) and 39 Stableford points.

The event also featured celebrities like Teddy Sheringham, Robbie Fowler, and Jimmy Anderson. The Legends Tour’s OFX Irish Legends tournament begins today at Seapoint Golf Links, with defending champion Peter Baker and Major winners Ian Woosnam, Paul Lawrie, Michael Campbell, and Angel Cabrera competing.
