By ArdeePost Reporter

DUNDALK, CO LOUTH — A violent hijacking incident in Dundalk last night has sparked a major Garda investigation after a wheelchair user was forcibly removed from a taxi by an armed suspect.
The alarming event occurred shortly after 10.40pm at Roden Place in the heart of Dundalk town. According to Gardaí, the taxi had just picked up a male passenger, who required the assistance of the driver to enter the vehicle due to his use of a wheelchair.
Moments after the driver returned to his seat and prepared to depart, a masked man approached the vehicle and opened the driver’s door. He was reportedly armed with what the driver believed to be a firearm. Threatening the driver, the suspect ordered him out of the car before taking control of the vehicle and speeding off.
The incident took an even more disturbing turn when, approximately half a kilometre away from the initial hijacking location, the suspect stopped the taxi and forcibly pulled the wheelchair-bound passenger from the vehicle, leaving him by the side of the road. Fortunately, the passenger did not sustain any injuries, but the traumatic nature of the event has prompted widespread concern.
The hijacked vehicle is described as a silver Skoda Superb taxi with a 131-KE registration plate. The suspect is described as being of average height with a heavy build and was last seen wearing a black hat. He remains at large.
Gardaí are urgently appealing to the public for assistance in tracing the stolen taxi and identifying the suspect. They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was in the Roden Place, Francis Street, or Jocelyn Street areas between 10pm and 10.50pm last night.
Anyone with dash cam or CCTV footage from the area during the relevant time period is asked to make it available to investigators.
