Record Number of GAA All-Star Nominees for Louth as Ardee St Mary’s Donal McKenny Leads the Charge
Ardee News and Sport — Louth footballers have achieved a historic milestone, with a record number of PwC All-Star nominees following a breakthrough season under manager Ger Brennan. Among the nominees is Ardee St Mary’s Donal McKenny, who joins Craig Lennon, Tommy Durnin, and team captain Sam Mulroy in contention for the prestigious awards.
This is the first time Louth players have been nominated since Paddy Keenan and John O’Brien were shortlisted in 2010. McKenny and Lennon are seen as the county’s best hopes of following in Keenan’s footsteps, who claimed Louth’s only All-Star to date.
Donal McKenny, the standout Ardee St Marys cornerback, had a stellar season, starting all eight Championship games and scoring two goals. His consistent performances make him a strong contender for this year’s All-Star team.
Craig Lennon from St Mochta’s, who notched an impressive 4-10 during the campaign, has also been shortlisted. The dynamic wingback was a crucial part of Louth’s defense and attack throughout the season.
Midfielder Tommy Durnin and forward Sam Mulroy complete Louth’s quartet of nominees. Durnin, a former Westerns player, played all eight games, scoring 14 points, while Mulroy, the county’s talisman, amassed 3-43 in the Championship and 7-79 throughout the season.
Despite the stiff competition from teams that reached the All-Ireland final and semi-finals, all four Louth players were nominated on merit, marking a proud moment for The Wee County.
The PwC All-Star winners will be announced at a gala event on November 1, where the senior footballer of the year will also be crowned.
