Walderstown, Faugheen 50, and Athea Confirmed as RRAI Secures Insurance
The roar of motorcycles will once again echo through the roads of the Republic of Ireland in 2025 as road racing makes a long-awaited return. The Road Racing Alliance Ireland (RRAI), a newly formed organisation that split from Motorcycling Ireland last year, has announced that it has successfully secured insurance to stage several events next season.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the RRAI confirmed that the Walderstown, Faugheen 50, and Athea road races are set to take place, marking a significant milestone for Irish motorcycle racing after a two-year absence due to insurance challenges.
“After what seems like an eternity since the last motorcycle races took to the roads here in the Southern Centre, the RRAI are pleased to announce that the organisation has secured an insurance policy to cover several events for 2025,” the statement read.
A New Era for Irish Road Racing
Since parting ways with Motorcycling Ireland in October 2023, road racing clubs have worked tirelessly under the RRAI banner to revive the sport. The group emphasized that this breakthrough is not only about restoring racing but ensuring a long-term future for the sport in the Republic.
“The work undertaken by the RRAI and the clubs has resulted in an insurance policy that covers road races in the South,” the statement continued. “While there is significant work ahead, we feel that it is wholly achievable. This is not a time for looking back—it’s about the here and now and the sport’s future.”
The RRAI also hinted at the possibility of adding more events to the 2025 calendar, with discussions ongoing to secure additional races beyond the three already confirmed.
A Boost for Fans, Riders, and Teams
For road racing fans, riders, and teams, the announcement is a cause for celebration. Since the last races were held in 2022, the absence of competitive road racing in the Republic of Ireland has been keenly felt. The return of these iconic races—Walderstown, Faugheen 50, and Athea—signals a fresh chapter for the sport and a hopeful future.
With Northern Ireland’s 2025 road racing calendar already featuring the Cookstown 100, North West 200, Tandragee 100, and Armoy, the addition of these Republic-based events ensures a more complete and exciting season for racing enthusiasts.
“Positive, golden, fantastic insurance news at last for all ROI pure road racing teams, riders, fans, and organisers,” the RRAI concluded. “Roll on the return of Walderstown, Faugheen, Athea, and hopefully many more in the near future.”
Looking Ahead
The hard-fought battle to reinstate road racing has finally yielded success, and with momentum building, the focus now shifts to the practicalities of getting these legendary events back on track. Organisers will continue to work on finalizing race dates and additional event details in the coming months.
For now, the message from the RRAI is clear: Irish road racing is back, and the future looks brighter than ever. some of the highest ratios, compared to infrastructure-rich counties like Kerry, Longford, and Mayo.
