Sarah Fagan Women’s Lap of Louth Pedals On: Annual Cycling Event Returns with New Focus on Inclusivity
New Focus on Inclusivity
The Dundalk Cuchulainn Cycling Club has announced that this year’s Sarah Fagan Women’s Lap of Louth will take place on Sunday, 18th August. Now in its fourth year, this celebrated female-only cycling event has become a major fixture on the Irish cycling calendar, drawing participants from all 32 counties.
The event, renamed in memory of Sarah Fagan, a beloved club member who tragically passed away last year, continues to honor her legacy of promoting and encouraging women in sport. Sarah Fagan was known for her dedication and her passion for inspiring others to embrace athletic challenges.
This year’s event will again be integrated into Sport Ireland’s “HER Outdoors Week,” aiming to further engage women in sports while highlighting the benefits of physical activity. The cycle will offer two routes: a 50km and a 90km course, both taking riders through the scenic rolling hills, picturesque villages, and stunning coastal views of County Louth.
The committee, including Sarah Fagan’s close colleagues Ann McNally, Brid Quigley, Jacqueline Healy, and Geraldine Donaghy, has ensured that every detail of the event caters to a fun and supportive atmosphere. Riders can look forward to fully marshalled routes, ample rest stops with snacks and refreshments, and a range of post-ride festivities including food, music, and a free raffle with fantastic prizes.
Participants will be able to enjoy changing facilities and hot showers after their ride. The day will commence at 10:00am from the DkIT Sports Centre, with registration available online or on the day itself.
The registration fee is €20 online or €25 on the day. For more details and to register, visit Eventmaster or the event’s Facebook page. For further inquiries, email women@dundalkcycling.com.
The Sarah Fagan Women’s Lap of Louth would like to extend heartfelt thanks to its sponsors: DkIT Sport, Fyffes, Dole, The Cycle Centre, Kelleher Insurances, German Salami Company, The Bike Station, Galibier, EK Fuels Ltd, Velo Revolution, Louth Local Sports Partnership, Grenade, Ronaghans Pharmacy, Byrnes Late Night Pharmacy, and The Hair Shop.
