In County Louth, two individuals were hospitalised following a severe collision between a car and a lorry on the R173 Dundalk to Carlingford Road in Ballymascanlon. The accident occurred around 12:10 pm today.

A woman in her 50s, who was driving the car, and a man in his 40s, the lorry driver, were transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. According to a statement from gardaí, the woman is being treated for serious injuries, while the man is undergoing a medical examination.

The road remains closed as authorities conduct a technical examination of the site. Local diversions are currently in place.

Gardaí are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Road users with camera or dashcam footage from the R173 between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm today are specifically requested to share it with the authorities.
