It was a night of mixed emotions for Louth football fans in the latest Soccer News Update, with Drogheda United letting victory slip away late against Derry City, while Dundalk FC continued their climb with a statement win over Cobh Ramblers.

Derry Rescue Late Point Against Drogs in Premier Division Standoff
SSE Airtricity Premier Division
Drogheda United 1 – 1 Derry City
Venue: Sullivan & Lambe Park, Drogheda
It was heartbreak for Drogheda United as they conceded a dramatic late equaliser in the 90th minute, with a deflected effort from substitute Dom Thomas rescuing a point for visitors Derry City.
Drogheda had taken the lead just before half-time through Elicha Ahui, whose powerful header from an Owen Lambe corner marked his third goal in claret and blue—and second against Derry. Ahui’s solid defending also played a crucial role in neutralising Derry’s attacking threat, notably Michael Duffy, for much of the game.
Thomas Oluwa had two golden chances to double the home side’s advantage but failed to convert, and those misses proved costly when Thomas’ speculative strike deflected cruelly off Ryan Brennan, wrong-footing Luke Dennison in goal.
The result leaves Drogheda with just one win in their last seven and slipping to fifth in the Premier Division standings. They now face champions Shelbourne on Monday in a high-stakes encounter, with both sides battling for top-half consistency.

Dundalk March On: Horgan Inspires Win Over Cobh
SSE Airtricity First Division
Cobh Ramblers 1 – 2 Dundalk FC
Venue: St Colman’s Park, Cobh
In sharp contrast to their Louth neighbours, Dundalk FC soared to the top of the First Division, pulling four points clear with a crucial away win at Cobh Ramblers—and it was Daryl Horgan who ran the show.
Horgan’s 37th-minute opener, a solo moment of class from the edge of the area, gave Dundalk a deserved lead after dominating early proceedings. He followed it up with an assist for Gbemi Arubi, who headed home a second just before the break.
Cobh clawed one back with a stunning Shane Griffin free-kick early in the second half, but despite their pressure, Dundalk held firm. Substitutes Vincent Leonard and Eoin Kenny had opportunities to extend the lead further, but the scoreline remained tight.
This vital away win not only solidifies Dundalk’s promotion ambitions but also dented Cobh’s hopes of leapfrogging them at the summit.
