St Kevin’s GFC to Host Free Family Fun Day with Louth County Council for National Play Day
By ArdeePost Reporter

Louth County Council, in partnership with St Kevin’s GFC and the Louth Local Sports Partnership (LLSP), has announced a Free Family Fun Day to mark National Play Day 2025. The event will take place on Sunday, July 6th at St Kevin’s GAA grounds in Philipstown from 10am to 2pm.
A Day of Fun, Play and Community Spirit
The Family Fun Day is part of a nationwide initiative celebrating National Play Day, with this year’s theme being “The Power of Play.” The theme underscores the vital role that play has in child development, creativity, and social inclusion, while also helping to strengthen community ties across generations.
Families from Dunleer, Philipstown and surrounding areas — as well as from across Co. Louth — are warmly invited to attend the event, which will include:
- A family sports day
- A wide range of games and physical activities
- Live entertainment
- Free goodies for all children
There is no charge to attend, and no pre-registration required — simply turn up and enjoy the fun.
Council Support and Community Partnership
Speaking ahead of the event, Cllr Sean Kelly, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, said:
“National Play Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the joy and importance of play in our lives. We’re proud to support events that bring families and communities together in such a positive and engaging way.”
He also praised St Kevin’s GFC for their active involvement in helping to organise and host the event:
“Local sports clubs like St Kevin’s are at the heart of our communities. Their support and facilities are what make events like this so successful and accessible to everyone.”
🏐 St Kevin’s GFC: More Than Just Sport
St Kevin’s GFC is a pillar of the Philipstown and wider Dunleer area, known not only for its contributions to Gaelic football but also for promoting youth development, physical activity, and community well-being. Hosting this Family Fun Day further cements its role as a central hub for positive local engagement.
Why National Play Day Matters
Now in its annual spotlight, National Play Day encourages children of all ages to engage in unstructured, creative and social play, especially outdoors. By supporting inclusive, free events such as this, Louth County Council aims to foster stronger, healthier and more connected communities.
