Ardee News and Sport – Tallanstown Outraged After Vandalism of National Flag in Maguire Park
The Tallanstown community has been left saddened and disappointed following a serious act of vandalism in Maguire Park earlier this week.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, targeted the commemorative 1916 Centenary Trail created by the Tallanstown Tidy Towns committee in 2016. As part of that project, a series of informative plaques were installed around the park, along with a central information board and a flagpole proudly flying the Irish Tricolour for the past nine years.
Shockingly, it was discovered that the cord of the flagpole had been cut, the national flag lowered, and an attempt made to set it alight.
“This horrible action is the exception to the rule,” a spokesperson for the committee said. “Down through the years, we’ve been fortunate to experience very little vandalism in Tallanstown, which is a great credit to both the young and old in our community.”
The committee is currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area and has confirmed that appropriate action will be taken if the individuals responsible can be identified.
Despite the disappointment, the committee remains resolute. “We will ensure that the Tricolour will be flying proudly again as soon as possible,” the spokesperson added.
The community now rallies around the Tidy Towns committee in condemning this act and reaffirming its shared pride in the symbols of our national heritage.
