Ardee News and Sport — The popular Tandragee 100 motorcycle road races are set to make a thrilling comeback, following a major announcement today (Friday, 11 October) by Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd. The Minister confirmed that essential resurfacing works will be undertaken later this year on a key section of the A51, paving the way for the North Armagh Motorcycle & Car Club to progress with plans for the 2025 event.

The North Armagh Motorcycle & Car Club (Tarmac Section) Ltd, organisers of the Tandragee 100, expressed their excitement over the announcement, which will address long-needed repairs to the road network used during the race.

Minister O’Dowd emphasized the significance of the Tandragee 100, both for the local community and the wider Northern Ireland motorsport calendar. “Over many years, my Department has worked closely with race organisers to ensure safe conditions for the Tandragee 100. This has involved carrying out road surface and drainage repairs in advance of the event. The resurfacing of a small stretch of the road will continue this essential work in preparation for next year’s race,” he said.

He further highlighted the importance of investing in the rural road network, not only for the race but also for the local economy. “The Tandragee 100 attracts thousands of motorsport enthusiasts, generating significant opportunities for local businesses and tourism. I am committed to supporting our rural road network, which plays a vital role in the community,” O’Dowd added.

Anne Forsythe, Clerk of the Course and Club Secretary, welcomed the Minister’s announcement. “This news enables us to move forward with preparations for the 2025 Tandragee 100. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has worked tirelessly since our last event in 2022, and to the Minister and his team at the Department for Infrastructure for their continued support.”

Forsythe also noted the significant work ahead, saying, “We will now focus on securing the necessary financial resources and applying for a Road Closing Order, along with completing the many tasks required to get the event running smoothly. As a Club, we remain fully committed to bringing this awe-inspiring event back in 2025.”

With the official confirmation of the resurfacing works, fans of the Tandragee 100 can once again look forward to the return of one of Northern Ireland’s most beloved road races, which has been on hold in recent years. The 2025 event is poised to bring motorsport enthusiasts and local communities together once more.
