Teenager Arrested in Dundalk After €181,000 Worth of THC Oil Seized
Gardaí in Dundalk have arrested a teenage male following the seizure of suspected illegal THC oil valued at approximately €181,000. The arrest, made as part of Operation Tara, took place on the morning of Friday, August 16th, 2024.
The incident began when Gardaí responded to a report involving the youth. The teenager attempted to flee the scene but was quickly pursued and apprehended by officers. During the arrest, Gardaí seized around 7 litres of suspected THC oil, along with drug paraphernalia and an Armani watch.
THC oil, known as the primary psychoactive component in marijuana, has gained attention in recent years for its potential medicinal benefits, particularly for individuals suffering from seizures and chronic pain. However, in Ireland, THC remains classified as a controlled substance under the Misuse of Drugs Acts of 1977 and 1984. This means that possession of any form of cannabis, including THC oil, is illegal, whether for personal use or with intent to supply.
The seized substances will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for further analysis.
The teenage male was taken to a Garda station in the Dundalk area for questioning. He has since been released without charge, and a file is being prepared for the Garda Youth Diversion Office.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing. This significant seizure underscores the ongoing efforts of Operation Tara to combat drug-related crime in Ireland.
