Three talented students and apprentices from County Louth are set to compete at the highly anticipated WorldSkills Ireland 2024 event, which will take place at the RDS, Simmonscourt from September 25th to 27th. The event, which celebrates apprenticeships, skills, and careers, is expected to attract over 27,000 visitors, including students, parents, and teachers, with a focus on showcasing career opportunities through interactive demonstrations and career zones.

Representing Louth at the national level, the three finalists will go head-to-head with their peers across a variety of skills-based trades during the live competitions. The local competitors are:

Emily Farrell in the Cookery competition

Leah Glass in Digital Infrastructure Design

Killian Murphy in Plumbing & Heating

They will join over 170 finalists in contests covering trades like automation, construction, ICT, and culinary arts.

Ray English, Chair of WorldSkills Ireland, expressed his admiration for the finalists, stating, “Congratulations to all the exceptional young individuals who have earned their place as finalists. This achievement is a testament to their dedication and skill, and we are incredibly proud to celebrate their talents.”

WorldSkills Ireland serves as a vital platform for promoting apprenticeships and skills-based careers, offering students a chance to explore alternatives to university education. The event is supported by major industry partners, including SISK, ESB Networks, and the Construction Industry Federation, highlighting its importance as a collaborative effort between education, industry, and government.

Running concurrently with the Higher Options event, WorldSkills Ireland aims to guide students, parents, and teachers through the vast range of career paths available after secondary school. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet with employers, try out different skills, and attend inspiring talks from industry experts.

The finals will take place on Friday, September 27th, and registration for the free event is open at www.worldskillsireland.ie.
