Have Your Say on the Future of Volunteering in Ireland

Local communities in County Louth are being urged to take part in shaping the future of volunteering, as public consultations for Ireland’s new National Volunteering Strategy (2026–2030) come to Dundalk and Drogheda next week.

Organised by Louth Volunteer Centre and led nationally by the Department of Rural and Community Development & the Gaeltacht, the consultations will inform the government’s five-year roadmap to recognise, promote, and grow volunteering across the country.

Two sessions are scheduled:

  • North Louth — Dundalk, Tuesday 30th September 2025, 6:00–7:30pm at Creative Spark Downtown Hub, Clanbrassil Street.
  • South Louth — Drogheda, Thursday 2nd October 2025, 6:00–7:30pm at The Marcy Hotel, 29 West Street.

Kayleigh Mulligan, Manager of Louth Volunteer Centre, encouraged locals from all walks of life to attend:

“This is a unique opportunity for people across County Louth to have their say on how volunteering is supported and celebrated in Ireland. Whether you currently volunteer, would like to start, or work with organisations that involve volunteers, your views matter. The Strategy will shape supports for the next five years, so it’s vital that local voices are heard.”

Volunteering plays a crucial role in Irish society, strengthening communities through arts, heritage, health, sport, education, and social supports. The COVID-19 pandemic further highlighted its value, with thousands of volunteers stepping up to reduce isolation, improve mental health, and provide vital services during a time of national crisis.

The new Strategy aims to build on this legacy, ensuring that volunteers are supported, appreciated, and encouraged to continue making a difference.
