Women Dare to Bare
This September 8th, hundreds of courageous women from across the North-East will gather for a cause that touches hearts deeply—the 13th annual Dip in the Nip. Organized by the inspiring Karen Healy and Liz Summersby, this bold fundraising event supports NECRET (North East Cancer Research and Education Trust) and is dedicated to preserving dignity for cancer patients and their families.

This year, every penny raised will contribute to the construction of a new Family Educational Room at the Oncology Unit, a much-needed space where patients and their families can receive life-changing news in privacy and comfort. This room will also serve as a crucial hub for teaching patients how to manage their care at home, helping them maintain dignity and independence during challenging times. Remarkably, this project will be entirely funded by the incredible women who participate in this year’s Dip.

A past participant of Women Dare to Bare perfectly captures the spirit of the event:
“The Dip is an emotional rollercoaster—fear, excitement, and adrenaline all blend together as you stand on that beach. But the moment we held hands and ran into the sea, all those emotions transformed into an overwhelming sense of calm and unity. Being surrounded by such strong, supportive women while facing the water was an indescribable experience. It wasn’t just a swim—it was a celebration of life, resilience, and sisterhood.”

This year’s Dip in the Nip is not just about raising funds; it’s about building something that will have a lasting impact on countless lives. The new Family Educational Room will provide a safe, private space for families to learn about treatment and care, preserving their dignity during some of life’s most difficult moments. The event is a testament to the strength and solidarity of women who, year after year, dare to bare in support of those affected by cancer.

To join this extraordinary cause, receive your registration pack by emailing dipnortheast@gmail.com or texting 087 4054835 with your full name, postal address, and contact number. Please note that registration closes on August 23rd.

Additionally, NECRET’s Annual Living with Cancer Conference, an Information and Support Day for Patients and their Families, will take place on the afternoon of September 28th at the City North Hotel. For more details,

Let’s come together and support these amazing women as they raise the funds needed to make this vital project a reality.
