CúChulainn Archers Win Big Despite Fierce Athy Winds
By ArdeePost Reporter
Members of the CúChulainn Field Archery Club once again took to the roads at the weekend, travelling to Athy, Co. Kildare, to compete in the IFAA Double Flint Round.
The two-day event, hosted by Strongbow Archers at Harbour House Club, proved to be as much a test of endurance against the weather as it was of archery skill.
Representing CúChulainn were Fiachra Judge, Christy Banks, Claudia Heinze Banks, Hugh Murphy, and Peter Gilmore. The conditions varied wildly, with alternating bursts of sunshine and showers, but it was the wind that truly challenged the competitors. Gusts were described by participants as “vicious, turbulent, and guaranteed to blow harder every time a bow was raised” – a poetic way of saying it was downright tricky shooting weather.

Despite the elements, the CúChulainn team shone on the podium:
- Compound: Fiachra Judge claimed Gold, narrowly surpassing fellow club member Hugh Murphy, who took Silver.
- SMBBR: Peter Gilmore secured Gold, with Christy Banks taking Silver in the same category.
- AFBBR: Claudia Heinze Banks earned Silver in her division.
All five archers agreed it was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend, with camaraderie and competition going hand in hand. You can view the full list of results here
