Louth woman sent for trial over alleged hit-and-run crash
By ArdeePost Reporter
A 38-year-old woman accused of fleeing the scene of a serious road traffic accident in Co. Louth has been returned for trial at Dundalk Circuit Court.
Gagandeep Kaur, of Adamstown, Dunleer, Co. Louth, appeared before Ardee District Court, where a book of evidence was served against her.
Ms Kaur faces three serious charges in connection with an alleged hit-and-run incident at Mooretown, Dromiskin, on January 6, 2025. A male cyclist sustained severe injuries during the collision, which Gardaí allege involved a Mercedes Benz driven by the accused.
Prosecutors allege that following the collision, Ms Kaur, with intent to pervert the course of justice, was actively involved in moving the Mercedes from the scene and attempting to have the vehicle repaired, thereby destroying key evidence.
She is also accused of failing to stop at the scene of the collision, despite knowing the cyclist had suffered injuries requiring urgent medical treatment.
A third charge relates to dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm, while a fourth charge—failing to provide Gardaí with appropriate information—was adjourned to Ardee District Court on March 13.
At the district court hearing, Judge Patricia Cronin issued an alibi warning and made a Section 56 disclosure order. Ms Kaur was remanded on bail to Dundalk Circuit Court on October 7 for trial.
The court approved a new €10,000 independent surety as part of her bail conditions. Legal aid was also granted to cover representation by a solicitor, barrister, and senior counsel.
The case has drawn significant local attention due to the seriousness of the cyclist’s injuries and the allegations of an attempted cover-up. Gardaí have said the investigation highlights their determination to tackle dangerous driving and ensure accountability for serious road traffic offences.
