The festive season may be over, but for archers, the New Year has ushered in a fresh calendar of competitions. CúChulainn Archers started 2025 on a high note, taking part in several fun shoots, including the aptly named Christmas Stress Buster.
Hosted by Ulster Bowmen, the event featured two World Archery (WA) rounds: a WA 25 in the morning (60 arrows shot at 25 meters) and a WA 18 in the afternoon (60 arrows at 18 meters).
The CúChulainn team delivered impressive results:
• Mark Young: Gold, Men’s Traditional Bowstyle
• JoAnn Bell: Gold, Master Women Compound
• Siobhan Keeble: Gold, Barebow Women
• Paul McClelland: Silver, Master Men Compound
• Neil Keeble: Silver, Barebow Men
• Peter Gilmore: Bronze, Master Barebow Men
Meanwhile, CúChulainn’s Darrel Wilson competed in the NICS Double Portsmouth Robin Hood competition. Shooting the Portsmouth Round (60 arrows at 20 yards on a 60 cm target), Darrel clinched Gold in Men’s Compound and shattered his own Northern Irish Record, which had stood for 11 years. This victory builds on his remarkable achievements from December 2024, when he secured both Irish and Northern Irish records.
