Ardee News and Sport – Ardee Roads Branded ‘Obstacle Courses for Vehicles’ as Councillor Demands Urgent Repairs
A local councillor has raised serious concerns about the deteriorating road conditions in areas surrounding Ardee, describing them as “obstacle courses for vehicles.”
Sinn Féin Cllr Pearse McGeough has called on Louth County Council to conduct an urgent safety assessment of roads in the Townspark Road, Coole, and Glack areas, where crumbling surfaces, deep cracks, and dangerous potholes are posing risks to motorists.
Severe Damage & Safety Concerns
Speaking about the extent of the damage, Cllr McGeough painted a grim picture of the roads, stating:
“They are crumbling and have huge cracks where the subsidence has lifted the surface. At one point, I was able to put my hand right into the crack and could feel just empty space below the surface.”
He described driving in the area as navigating an obstacle course, where motorists are forced to weave in and out to avoid the worst potholes and hazardous road edges, which in some cases have dropped by several feet.
Call for Action
Cllr McGeough formally raised the issue at this month’s Municipal District Meeting and has now called on Louth County Council to:
✅ Carry out a full safety assessment of the affected roads.
✅ Implement emergency repairs where necessary.
✅ Consider weight restrictions to reduce further damage.
“Worst Roads I Have Ever Seen”
Concluding his statement, Cllr McGeough emphasized the urgency of the issue:
“The roads around Coole, Glack, and Townspark are in a worrying state. I have never seen roads as bad. The issues need to be addressed immediately.”
With local frustration mounting, residents and road users will now be looking to Louth County Council’s response to these escalating concerns.
