Funding Boost Fuels Fresh Makeovers for Louth’s Towns and Villages

Louth County Council has announced the successful applicants for the Tidy Towns Project Scheme 2025, providing a significant funding boost for community-led beautification efforts. A total of 18 projects across the county will benefit from a share of over €100,000, aiding towns and villages in their bid to improve their rankings in the National Tidy Towns Competition.

Launched in January 2025, the scheme was approved by elected members during their March meeting, with a total of €34,687.53 allocated to six projects within the Ardee Municipal District.

Successful Projects in the Ardee Municipal District:

  • Ardee Tidy Towns Project 1 – Landscaping of the Northern Approach to Ardee – €8,100.00
  • Ardee Tidy Towns Project 2 – Refurbishment of the garden at Chantry Cottage – €2,970.00
  • Castlebellingham Tidy Towns – Installation of new seating at Seabank & St. Oliver’s Park – €5,631.93
  • Dunleer Tidy Towns – Works on the New Railway Garden – €6,946.20
  • Louth Village Tidy Towns – Pollinator planting & signage at St. Mary’s Abbey – €5,973.30
  • Tallanstown Tidy Towns – Replanting overgrown beds in the green triangle in the village & addition of two new beds – €5,066.10

In addition, €63,797.19 has been awarded to nine projects in the Dundalk Municipal District, and €10,689.40 has been allocated to three projects in the Borough District of Drogheda and Monasterboice. These projects include a wide range of initiatives such as park refurbishments, biodiversity trails, outdoor sculptures, and exercise facilities.

Commitment to Enhancing Local Communities

A Louth County Council spokesperson highlighted the importance of these projects, stating:

“The continued success of Tidy Towns groups in both local and national competitions reflects their dedication and hard work. Beyond competition, their projects foster community pride and enhance their towns and villages as attractive destinations for visitors and businesses alike.”

The council reaffirmed its commitment to supporting these initiatives through funding for small-scale capital improvement projects, ensuring alignment with National Tidy Towns categories and the recommendations from competition judges.

With this latest round of funding, Ardee and surrounding towns are set to see significant improvements, enhancing their public spaces and fostering a greater sense of community pride.
