Ardee News and Sport — Ardee Community School is celebrating a remarkable milestone—50 years of serving the local community since its establishment in 1974, when St Anne’s Secondary School for Girls, De La Salle Boys’ Secondary School, and Ardee Vocational School merged to create a unified post-primary institution. Run under the trusteeship of the Archdiocese of Armagh and the Louth Meath Education and Training Board, the school has long stood by its values of equality, harmony, and friendship, fostering an environment where each individual can flourish.

The school recently commemorated this golden anniversary with a weekend of special events that brought together past and present members of the school community. On September 27th, the centrepiece of the celebrations—a gala evening—was held, providing a heartwarming reunion for former students and staff. Attendees shared fond memories of their time at Ardee Community School, reflecting on the friendships and experiences that shaped their lives. The evening featured refreshments, entertainment, and a keynote address by EU Commissioner Mairead McGuinness, a distinguished alumna of the school.

The celebrations continued the following day with an under-9s GAA blitz tournament on the school’s playing fields, showcasing the school’s commitment to sports and community involvement. Back at the school, a photography and art exhibition jogged memories for many, highlighting the school’s vibrant history and creative spirit.

Further commemorative events are planned for later this year, including a memorial mass on November 26th to honor deceased members of the school community. Additionally, a special carol service will be held on December 17th, led by Archbishop Eamon Martin, capping off a year of reflection and celebration for the school.

Established as the first community school outside the Greater Dublin area, Ardee Community School has played an integral role in the educational development of Ardee and its surrounding regions. Over the years, it has expanded its offerings, including a wide array of subjects and supports for students with additional needs, ensuring a holistic educational experience for all.

The school’s most recent milestone was the completion of a two-storey extension in 2017, further enhancing its facilities. As it moves forward into the next 50 years, Ardee Community School continues to build on its rich history, providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for future generations.
