Ardee Connected as NBI Rolls Out Fibre Broadband
High-speed fibre broadband is now available near Ardee, as National Broadband Ireland (NBI) confirms that homes and businesses in the area can place orders under the National Broadband Plan.
The announcement marks a significant milestone for the town and its rural hinterland, with hundreds of local premises now able to access reliable, future-proofed internet connectivity.
1,578 Premises Connected Near Ardee
NBI has confirmed that 1,578 homes, farms and businesses near Ardee can now access high-speed fibre broadband. The rollout includes properties in the rural surrounds of Collon and Clonkeen, bringing improved connectivity to communities that previously relied on slower, legacy copper networks.
Across County Louth, the completion of works near Ardee means that 6,787 premises can now pre-order or order high-speed fibre broadband. To date, 2,879 connections have already been made.
Residents are being encouraged to visit nbi.ie and check their Eircode to confirm availability and begin the order process.
Delivering for Rural Louth
NBI’s fibre broadband rollout is being delivered under the Government’s National Broadband Plan, targeting what is known as the State’s Intervention Area — the most remote and rural parts of Ireland where commercial operators have no plans to provide high-speed services.
In Louth, the Intervention Area includes approximately 9,000 premises, all of which will receive minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second under the plan. The project represents the largest investment in rural Ireland since electrification, with €33 million in Government funding allocated to County Louth alone.
Preparing for the Copper Switch-Off
As Ireland transitions away from legacy copper networks, NBI says its fibre infrastructure will future-proof communities across Louth.
The new network is designed to support:
- Remote working
- Online education and training
- Access to digital healthcare services
- Growth of local businesses and farms
- Everyday household connectivity needs
The move is particularly significant for rural communities near Ardee, where reliable high-speed internet has long been a challenge.
NBI Encourages Residents to Check Availability
TJ Malone, Chief Executive Officer of National Broadband Ireland, said the company is pleased to reach this stage of the rollout near Ardee.
“We are delighted to announce that almost 1,600 Louth homes, businesses and farms near Ardee can now connect to NBI’s high-speed fibre broadband. Those connected are experiencing the life-changing benefits of high-speed fibre broadband with minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second.
“With the national switch-off of the copper network approaching, NBI’s fibre network will ensure communities across Co Louth are prepared for the future by supporting remote working, education, healthcare access, and local enterprise while providing the reliability needed for everyday living.
“As we enter the final year of the National Broadband Plan rollout, we’re encouraging everyone in Louth to check their Eircode on nbi.ie and order now to secure high-speed fibre broadband for their home or business.”
A Major Boost for Ardee and Surrounding Areas
The availability of high-speed fibre broadband represents a major boost for Ardee and its surrounding communities. With faster, more reliable connectivity now within reach, local families, farmers and businesses can look forward to improved digital access and new opportunities for growth.
