Ardee N2 Road Closures Announced Until June
Motorists travelling between Ardee and Cookstown are being advised to plan ahead, as temporary road closures and speed restrictions are set to come into effect along the N2 from March 9th to June 19th.
Louth County Council has given formal notice that sections of the N2 will close for short durations — not exceeding seven days at a time — to facilitate essential road works.
N2 Closures South of Ardee
It is proposed to close the N2 south of the Ardee roundabout during certain phases of the works.
Traffic will be diverted via:
- The N52
- The N33
Clearly signposted diversion routes will be in place while the works are ongoing.
The improvement works are expected to enhance road safety and surface quality along this busy regional route.
R171 Closure at Tallanstown
In addition to the N2 works, the R171 will also be closed at Tallanstown for five nights between May 18th and June 5th, 2026.
During this period, traffic will be diverted:
- Via the R166
- Then onto the N52
Motorists travelling through Mid Louth, particularly around Tallanstown, are advised to allow extra travel time during these overnight closures.
Carrickmacross Roundabout Resurfacing
Further resurfacing works will require the closure of the N2 at the Carrickmacross roundabout for five nights between May 18th and June 5th, 2026.
Diversions will again be clearly signposted to minimise disruption.
Temporary 50km/h Speed Limit
Notice has also been given that Louth County Council is introducing a temporary Road Works Speed Limit Order under Section 10(1) of the Road Traffic Act 2004.
A reduced speed limit of 50km/h will apply along the N2 between Ardee and Cookstown from March 9th to June 19th, for short durations of no more than seven days at any one time.
The reduced limit is being implemented in the interest of road safety while crews are working on site.
Ardee Motorists Urged to Plan Ahead
Drivers travelling between Ardee and neighbouring routes are being urged to:
- Follow diversion signage
- Adhere to temporary speed limits
- Allow additional travel time
- Exercise caution near work zones
While the works may cause short-term inconvenience, the improvements are aimed at delivering safer and smoother journeys for road users across the region.
