Fifteen-year-old Maisie Brady from Ardee has taken a major step forward in her musical journey with the release of her debut single, Paper Hearts, today, Friday, January 17. A third-year student at Ardee Community School, Maisie has been surrounded by music for as long as she can remember. However, this marks the first time she’s sharing her own original work with the world.

Maisie wrote Paper Hearts herself, describing how the lyrics flowed naturally before she crafted the melody on the piano. Her mother, Ruth, a classically trained soprano and owner of the Ardee School of Music, immediately recognized the song’s potential. Ruth brought the composition to producer Mark Cahill at Slane’s Ivory Studios, who helped bring it to life. To complement the track, Aidan Farrelly of Bad Apple Films directed a stunning music video, which will debut on social media tomorrow.

Music has been a cornerstone of Maisie’s life since early childhood. She began with Musical Rascals classes before transitioning to violin lessons at the Ardee Music School at the age of eight. Maisie has also been a member of the Ardee Children’s Choir and played clarinet with the Ardee Concert Band, achieving impressive progress before pausing to focus on her studies. During the lockdown, Maisie taught herself guitar using YouTube tutorials, later pursuing formal lessons to further refine her skills.

Her diverse musical influences, ranging from pop and rock to musical theatre and heavy metal, are reflected in her versatile style. After singing lessons with Niamh O’Hanlon, Maisie and her older sister Sally recorded a duet, A Life That’s Good, at Ivory Studios, sparking her love for the recording process and inspiring her to write original songs.

Though she admits to feeling “a wee bit nervous,” Maisie is brimming with excitement. “I just love singing and playing music and can’t wait to get back into the recording studio soon,” she shares. Her family, including mum Ruth, dad Will, sister Sally, and brother Alfie, are bursting with pride. Ruth says, “It amazes me that at just 15 years of age, Maisie can write such deep lyrics and compose such a beautiful melody.”

Paper Hearts is now available on Spotify and Apple Music, with more original music on the way. To follow Maisie’s journey, visit her on Instagram @maisiebradysings, TikTok @maisiebradymusic, or Facebook @sallyandmaisiesing.
